Children can get lost when on holiday
Child safety scheme launched at Bristol airport
01 August 2008
A new child safety initiative has been introduced at Bristol airport which aims to reunite lost children with their families, the BBC has reported.
With thousands of families expected to use the airport in the busy summer months, a police community support officer (PCSO) who works at Bristol airport developed a scheme which involves children wearing wristbands with their parents'' contact information.
PSCO Maria Tudgee told the BBC: "This scheme will enable us to engage with parents and children as they come through the airport and help them realise how important it is to stay together and not wander off while on holiday."
Parents can use permanent markers to write on the £1 wristbands while money raised from the project will go to a campaign that helps critically ill babies at Bristol children''s hospital.
Speaking to the BBC, Alison Roberts, of Bristol international airport, said: "Thousands of families will pass through the airport during August. The wristbands will help reunite children with their parents should they get lost, whether it is on the beach or in the departure lounge."
Bristol airport has announced plans to build a wind turbine on its site, according to the Bristol Evening Post.
